Outdoors
I love spending time in the great outdoors, camping, mortorcycle riding, hiking and riding my mountain bike. Not to sound cliche but the outdoors is a place where you can find yourself. You are away from the hustle and bustle of the city, away from electroncs, from obligations and responsibilities, you are away from the hurry up to be somewhere mindset. In the outdoors you can relax let your hair down and just enjoy the beauty that is around us.
Sports
I love to play and watch all kinds of sports. Some I watch for the technical aspect of the game. Some I just watch for enjoyment and relaxation. There are so many aspects of sports that people take for granted. Sports are not about just who comes out on top but they are about personal development.
For instance,
Basketball – I am more of just a fan of basketball, it’s a sport that I can just watch and appreciate the skills of players. Unfortunately, I am an analytical sales person, meaning I am always watching people movements, gesture, listening to their verbiage and body language. But with basketball I can just relax and watch.
Soccer – Why do I love the game? Because it’s about life you have to be able to survey the entire field and see where people are moving, you have to anticipate what is going to happen next, you are part of a team and if you do your best and play your part the team and yourself will be successful. it’s about learning to communicate with one another, learning to help each other understand what is happening around you and learning to trust your teammates. These are all things that can help you be successful in life and on the field.
All sports you can relate to life, by continuing to be a student of the game by continuing to pratice and work on your fitness you can be ready when called upon. I love to see a sub in the 85th minute, the player comes on with energy and enthuasimn and is ready and then puts one in the back of the net for the game winner. These are true athletes they are prepared physically and mentially and are ready to preforme when called upon. This is no different than life, can you be prepared to preform at the 90th minute?
I am not going to list all sports and my analysis of them. But I will say I love the aspect of team sports. I would say one that I have just recently developed a love for and have done so since my Daughter has started to play competitively is Volleyball – Volleyball is different than most team sports in and of the fact that you have the opportunity to work as a team and get prepared for the attack with no interference from the other team. Then the other team gets to work without interference from your team then, if your team is successful in the preperation, the game is decide at the point of attack only.
“Sports are not about sports they are about team work, personal development, learning and overcoming adversity.”
Technology classes and training: I volunteer one night a month to teach technology classes to members of our community, it is basic computer skills, how to use Word, Excel, Power Point, and basic computer literacy.
Licensed Competitive Soccer coach: I originally got licensed as a soccer coach to coach my oldest son. However, since playing Soccer in High School I have always loved the game. Now having coached for 8 years and seeing how sports and specifically how soccer can help young children develop self-esteem the willingness and drive to set goals and achieve success, whether it is learning how to juggle, learning moves, or positions on the field or even how to lose gracefully and win gracefully these skills can be invaluable to someone in school or in life.
Career Day Presenter: Every year I get the opportunity to go to Career day at my local Jr. High and High School to talk about what it means to be an entrepreneurship, I enjoy sharing the stage with other professionals in our community and helping the youth in our community broaden their knowledge of what it means to truly be an entrepreneure and continue their education throughout life. It is very rewarding to have students interact and learn more about the world of developing, creating and being a business owner. I love to open thier imagination.
Financial Literacy Educator: Financial Literacy is only required in about 30 states in the United States to graduate from high school, and yet it is one of the biggest factors of people lives. Because of this I volunteer once or twice a year to go in to our local high school and help the financial literacy teacher teach real life application of the things kids are learning in the books.
Scouting: I have been involved with Scouts for 3 years, and now Cub Scouts for 2 years. This is a great opportunity to help be a part of the development of young minds. I love seeing them learn and grow and being a part of the development of the next generation of leaders.
Misc Facts
Cancer Survivor: I want to be clear, I have only posted this as general information to help the reader understand that I know how lucky I am to walk and breath every day of my life. I try and treat every day as a gift. When you are told you have cancer you cannot help but think the worst. You are in shock, but then for those who are fighters, they learn to deal, cope and triump over adversity. It takes both mental fortitude and a physical fortatude to overcome.
The process for me started with educating myself to learn as much as I could about the disease, then to learn about options for treatment, then to learn how to beat it. Then after that we move into the action stage, you start doing. I started with diet and the exercise and rest. I wish I could say I have kept this up. I still am still fairly conscious about this just not neurotic about it anymore. Then after all you have done comes the faith part. I believe this same philosophy works in all aspects of life.
Lessons learned – Never know what’s going to happen tomorrow so make the best of today…
